Blackjack Games At Online Casinos
Blackjack dates back around 250 years when it was known as “vingt-et-un” by the French, which translates to the word for 21. French Canadian fur trappers and other immigrants who travelled to the US brought the game with them, prompting a surge in popularity. The game is still played today and remains one of the most popular casino games of all time.
Since arriving in the US, multiple variations of blackjack have been created. Each features different rules and gameplay and many of them have made it online. Now, the sheer number of different variations may make it hard for a user to select which game to play.
We’ve made it our mission to test all the best online blackjack games and rank them in order to provide blackjack fans with the best experience possible. We also only recommend online casinos that are fully certified, offer various payment methods and use cutting-edge security for your protection.
The Blackjack Rules
The rules of blackjack depend on the variation being played. Generally, however, the rules of land-based casinos and online casinos remain the same. Blackjack is a comparing card game in which players take it in turns to compete against the dealer by trying to reach the value of 21 without exceeding it.
To win, players must either get 21 points with their first two cards, reach a final score higher than that of the dealer without exceeding 21 or allowing the dealer to draw additional cards until they exceed 21. Working out your score is simple, as each numbered card in the deck is worth their face value while queens, kings and jacks are all worth 10. Depending on the rules, an ace can be worth either one or 11.
How to Play Blackjack
An online game begins with players selecting how much money they want to bet on a hand and clicking the ‘Deal’ button. After this, players are presented with several options which include taking another card, stop taking cards, double their original bet or surrendering the round.
After selecting their option, the dealer will either take more cards or reveal their hand, finishing the game. Winnings will then be awarded if the player has beaten the dealer’s hand without exceeding 21.

Variations & Gameplay
As we’ve mentioned above, there are numerous variations to blackjack for users to play. This includes the classic version we’ve just covered as well as three card blackjack and pontoon. Find out more about some of the available variations below:
Three Card: One of the easiest versions of blackjack available. In this variation, players are dealt three cards and must select two or all three of their cards to create a combination reaching 21 without exceeding it.
Elimination: A tournament version of blackjack in which players compete against each other and the dealers. Players are eliminated during the tournament which consists of 30 hands. The winner of the game is the player with the most chips.
Double Exposure: In this version, both of the dealer’s cards are exposed to players. The rest of the game plays like the classic version.
Pontoon: This variation is normally played by more than eight players, one of whom acts as the banker. Players compete against the banker and the game uses different terms than the original game, which you can find out in the game guide.
European: This version can use either two, four or eight decks of cards. The objective of the game remains the same, though the dealer doesn’t get a second card until all players have selected their actions regarding their hands.
Multi-Hand: Multi-Hand blackjack is played with five decks of 52 cards and players are required to play with up to five cards at once. The objective remains the same, though some rules have been altered.
Spanish 21: Similar to pontoon, but all the 10 cards have been removed. While this may seem harder, Spanish 21 has implemented some player-friendly rules in order to make it easier for players to win.
Face Up 21: In this variation, both the dealer’s cards are dealt face-up.
Match Play 21: Like Spanish 21, this game removes all 10s but offers special bonus payouts for special card combinations.
In addition to the above variations, some casinos also offer a live version of blackjack, in which a real dealer is broadcast to the player. The game is played in real-time and the player can interact with the dealer via the stream and chatrooms.
Why Play Blackjack Online?
Online casinos, which launched in 1996, have continued to rise in popularity in recent years. As we’ve mentioned before, users can play online casinos anywhere and at any time thanks to smartphones and tablets, but what makes online blackjack so special?
Like most advantages of online casino games, playing with your tablet or mobile device means you can play blackjack and its variations whenever and wherever you want. In addition, there will be no need to wait around for another player to finish their game as you can start a game at any time. In addition to this, players can have the chance to try the game for free in order to learn the rules and brush up on their skills.
Safety & Security
While your skills may not be up to scratch for online blackjack, one thing you certainly don’t need to worry about is safety and security since there are so many regulations and companies working hard to keep gamblers safe.
For example, an online casino providing games services must have acquired a license from the UK Gambling Commission. To do this, casino providers need to meet the commission’s strict guidelines. Meanwhile, it’s mandatory for casinos to take measures to protect their customers and they’re required to encrypt sensitive information to keep customer data protected.
In addition to this, testing agencies such as eCOGRA (E-Commerce and Online Gaming Regulation and Assurance), TST (Technical Systems Testing), GLI (Gaming Laboratories International) and Gaming Associates regularly test a casino’s fairness and integrity by playing the casino’s games.
It’s also important to review the customer support offered by each casino. Whether you’ve encountered a problem or just a question asked, each casino should provide quick, efficient and easy-to-use customer support. The help and support offered should include phone support, email and live chats. Some casinos even offer Skype support! We also recommend you to check whether the company provides 24/7 support or not.
