Developer Nolimit City has announced the launch of its new cluster-based video slot, The Border.
The brand-new casino game is set in a desolate world filled with trigger-happy patrol agents and cash-fuelled cartel kingpins. Freedom and riches await, but the border’s in the way…
The Border uses a 6×6 grid layout with a cluster pays mechanic, and it has an RTP of 96.17% with high volatility, which means you’re more likely to make infrequent large wins over regular small ones.
The game requires a bet of between £0.20 and £100 per spin, and its symbols include a man smoking, a man with a pistol, an army man, a man wearing a bandana, and a woman with a rose in her hair. There are also vultures, rattlesnakes, and scorpions.
The Border comes with several special features, including a cluster pays mechanic where you must match a cluster of five or more identical symbols to land a winning combination. When winning clusters are made, the symbols are destroyed and new symbols replace them for more winning combinations. This continues until no new clusters are made.
The game also has xWays symbols, which transform into a regular paying symbol of size two or four. If more than one xWays symbol lands on the reels, then all xWays symbols transform into the same symbol. When an xWays symbol lands, it will either be two full-sized symbols or four half symbols.
There are also xSplit symbols, which can only land on the second to sixth reels and split all symbols to the left while doubling the symbol size and converting itself into a Wild. xSplit symbols can split Scatters into two, and if multiple xSplit symbols land on the same row, already split symbols will get a multiplier value up to 64x.
The xNudge Cluster Wild symbol is a Wild that can nudge up and down to become part of a winning cluster. Depending on the winning symbol being above or below it, the Wild will nudge in that direction and increments the win multiplier by one point for every symbol it nudges over. If the symbol has an xMultiplier, it increments with that value.
The xNudge continues until no further consecutive symbols are part of a winning cluster. If the xNudge Cluster Wild symbol is split, it will start by adding its own multiplier to the overall win multiplier. The nudged over symbol also retains its value so no clusters are lost when nudging.
An xBomb Wild symbol substitute for any symbol except Scatter symbols, and an exploding xBomb Wild symbol removes adjacent symbols except Scatter and Wild symbols increasing the win multiplier by one point for the next collapse. If the xBomb is split, it will increase the win multiplier for the next collapse with the amount it has been split into. All xBombs will explode before the next collapse.
The xCluster symbols can only appear in the Bonus mode. Two or more unique symbol clusters in the same avalanche trigger the symbol, which increases the win multiplier by one point for each unique symbol cluster from the second cluster onwards.
Meanwhile, landing six Scatter symbols triggers 10 Mule Spins. During the feature, when xWays are part of a cluster, the symbols on the same reel will be infected before the xSplit and xNudge are triggered. Landing additional Scatter symbols upgrades the feature to the Coyote Spins and awards two more spins per Scatter.
Landing seven or more Scatter symbols triggers the Coyote Spins with 12 spins, an any additional symbols award two extra spins. xWays symbols infect cluster symbols and xBombs add their multiplier to all symbols with an xX indicator, although xBombs without a multiplier will add +1.
Finally, the game has its Boosted xRIP feature, where at the cost of an extra 50%, you can guarantee a Scatter symbol on the first reel.
Emil Svärd, the Product Owner and Co-Founder of Nolimit City, said in a statement: “The Border portrays the ruthless divide between two worlds. We’ve truly gone all-out with this slot, being our first cluster game.
“Our xMechanics will be popping off all over the place – keeping players engaged. Pepper in some fantastic artwork, an eerie soundtrack, and of course some crazy volatility – and you’ve got yourself a seriously bad-ass slot in The Border.”
