Betway Announced As First Betting Partner Of Springboks Rugby

Betway SA Rugby

Gambling operator Betway has signed what’s been described as a “groundbreaking” partnership with South African (SA) Ruby.

Under the three-year partnership, Betway has been named the first-ever betting partner of SA Rugby and the Springboks rugby team. The agreement sees Betway’s branding promoted on the matchday shorts of Springboks from September 2021.

In addition, Betway branding will appear on the field at home Tets matches and on perimeter branding too. Meanwhile, the operator has pledged to support Springbroks’ grassroots programmes and civic duties.

Jurie Roux, the Chief Executive of SA Rugby, said in a statement to SBC News: “This new partnership will enable us to work together in bringing our passionate fans even closer to the game.

“We are excited to be partnering with Betway as this will stretch beyond the four white lines of a rugby field – Betway have some exciting new initiatives that will be announced in due course as part of the new partnership, and we are excited to see what the future holds.”

David Rachidi, the Marketing Director at Betway South Africa (SA), commented: “The Springboks are undoubtedly South Africa’s most successful national sports team, with their success deeply rooted in the rich history and culture of this country.

“As a globally-acclaimed brand that has found a home in South Africa, such a partnership signifies our commitment to playing a leading role in growing the game of rugby across the board.”

He added: “Over the years, the team has defied the high odds that were stacked against them, so we look forward to partnering with them as they continue their quest to remain the world’s best rugby team.”

The above news comes as a slew of gambling operators have extended or formed new sponsorships with football clubs. For example, Reading FC announced an extension to its sponsorship with Casumo Casino for a third season despite the initial agreement only covering two.

Betsson Acquires Inkabet For $25M

Meanwhile, SW Nordic, a subsidiary of gambling operator Betsson, has agreed to acquire sportsbook and casino operator Inkabet, which launched back in 2012 and is a B2C brand offering sportsbook and casino content in South America.

The acquisition will see SW Nordic purchase Inkabet’s business activities, all related assets, and operations for $25 million with the intention to strengthen and expand Betsson’s presence within Latin America.

Alongside the initial $25 million, Betsson will pay up to $4 million dependent on Inkabet’s performance in reaching the agreed value and EBIT targets in the six months following the deal’s closure. This will be followed by a deferred payment of $5 million split into payments of $3 million in December 2021 and $2 million in December 2023.

Pontus Lindwall, the CEO of Betsson, said in a statement to CasinoBeats: “Through this transaction, Betsson continues to build market share in the LatAm region, following the previous acquisitions of JDP Tech Ltd, Suaposta and Colbet.

“This strengthens our position in a strategically important region where we have performed well and have big ambitions for the future.”
