Gambling operator Novibet has surrendered its UK gambling license and left the UK’s gambling market.

The firm announced its decision in a banner on Novibet’s UK-facing website, informing customers that it left the UK market on February 21st, 2022, and asking all users to withdraw their remaining funds and encouraging them to contact the casino’s customer support team.

Reports suggest that Novibet has decided to leave the UK market due to “commercial reasons”. The website was a popular casino and sports betting site for many UK players thanks to its slew of gambling content, promotions, and acceptance of payment methods.

What They Say

A spokesperson for the UK Gambling Commission issued a statement to iGaming Business, confirming the casino’s withdrawal from the UK market. They said: “We have been informed by Novigroup Ltd that it is surrendering its license.

“The operator is aware that we expect an orderly closure of its website to GB consumers and this includes providing consumers with clear information on how to obtain their funds. If a customer has questions concerning their account, they should contact the operator via its website.”

The news comes as the UK government continues its review of the Gambling Act 2005 and aims to publish its white paper in May this year. Meanwhile, last week, the BGC issued a warning on the dangers of the illegal black market, expressing concern that overly strict restrictions could push players into the dangerous black market.
