Online gambling firm 888 has expanded into the US with the launch of a sports betting website.

The company launched its 888sport brand in New Jersey and is expected to roll the website out in other states within the next few months, the Telegraph reports.

888 revealed that the launch marks the first time that they have offered sports betting to customers in the US and is excited to brand out to other states when the time comes.

The move comes after the US Supreme Court reversed a 26-year-old nationwide ban on sports betting in May. Following the ruling, several British sports betting firms have expanded int he United States including William Hill and Paddy Power.

888 in the United States

Ultimately, the scale of the sports betting industry in the US will depend entirely on how the different states decide to regulate it. Many have already said they will ban online betting and only allow sports betting to take place at casinos or racetracks.

Itai Frieberger, the Chief Executive of 888, described the New Jersey launch as “a major milestone” for the firm.

He added: “The group remains exceptionally well positioned to capture the potentially significant future growth opportunities as new regulation allows.”

The online gambling firm first launched in the US with an online casino in Nevada before expanding to New Jersey and Delaware.

Meanwhile, Yaniv Sherman, the Head of Commercial Development, relocated to New Jersey to help lead the US expansion.
