A family from Limerick, Ireland scooped the top prize of €500,000 in the Euromillions Plus draw 10 days ago.
The lucky family bought the winning Normal Play ticket at the Moss Harnett’s Spar supermarket in Abbeyfeale 3 days prior to the draw. This Tuesday, the anonymous family member who held the ticket revealed at the offices of National Lottery that he had used his own numbers when purchasing his ticket.
“I’ve always used my own numbers, since the very beginning of the Lotto and EuroMillions. They’ve been very good to me with small wins here and there but obviously I’ve never won anything as big as this. Thankfully we won’t have to worry too much about all this talk about the budget. We’ll be very sensible of course but we’re in a more comfortable position now,” said the man.
The husband in the family discovered his win while at work. He had to hide his excitement so that his colleagues wouldn’t find out he had won the lottery.
“I was in work the following morning and one of my colleagues told me that the winning ticket was sold at Moss’s Store in the town and my heart nearly stopped – knowing that it could possibly be me,” the man recalled.
He tried to remain calm and checked his ticket at a quiet corner a few minutes later. It didn’t take long for him to find out he was the latest winner of Euromillions.
“That was it, I had the winning ticket, it was such a surreal feeling. I wanted to scream and shout the place down but I didn’t want anybody to know or to make a fuss. I had to spend the entire day at work in a haze, knowing that I’d won a half million quid but I couldn’t tell anybody. It was torture – a nice kind of torture, of course,” he joked.
Having collected his cheque, the lucky winner and his family are in the process of planning some low-profile celebrations.
“This is literally a dream come true! It’s the perfect amount of money that just makes life that little bit easier,” he said.
The man said he and his family would be meeting their bank manager to pay off their mortgage. The rest of the money will contribute towards their young children.
Last week, a man from Kerry also scooped the massive Euromillions jackpot of €500,000. The generous winner decided to share his win with his family.
