Casino Operators Show Support for ‘Responsible Gambling Week’

Responsible Gambling Week

Several casino operators have shown support for this year’s Responsible Gambling Week.

Mecca, Rank Group, 888, William Hill, Ladbrokes are among some of the casino operators that are backing the event, which aims to promote responsible gambling to tackle addictions and other gambling problems.

The week-long event, which runs from November 1-7, has been organised by the Industry Group For Responsible Gambling, who also ran last year’s event, and has been given the title ‘Let’s Talk About Responsible Gambling’.

In addition to operators, suppliers and publishers are joining in to raise awareness alongside charities GambleAware, GamCare and YGam (the Young Gamblers Education Trust). The UK Gambling Commission is expected to join too.

Spreading Awareness

Many of the companies already have plans to promote the initiative. For example, Aspers, Mecca and William Hill will all hand out leaflets and pamphlets promoting the campaign at their real-life venues.

In addition, Virgin Games has donated space to its homepage to promote the campaign. Other website will present online customers with pop-ups advertising the event when they log into their accounts during the week. Meanwhile, the Jackpot Joy Group has funded a poster campaign at London Underground Stations as well as at football clubs and racecourses.

The campaign aims to create a conversation with customers, their friends, families and the general public about responsible gambling and what help and support are offered to anyone suffering from an addiction.

The news comes just as several organisations have called for a ban on gambling advertisements during live sporting events as well as a ban on any advertisements which target the vulnerable including those who suffer from an addiction.

Also, casino operator Rank Group was fined £500,000 this week after failing to protect a VIP customer suffering from problem gambling.
