Saratoga Racino

The Saratoga Casino and Hotel is an entertainment site located in Saratoga Springs, New York. The Saratoga casino is home to a race track, a racino and a luxury hotel, though it shouldn’t be confused with the Saratoga Race Course located across the street.

It provides tons of entertainment, from live and simulcast horse racing to video casino games and much more. But let’s take a closer look at the Saratoga racino.

Saratoga Racino History

The Saratoga racino has changed names several times over the last 20 years. It first opened in 1941 as the Saratoga Raceway, a facility for American harness racing and the third racetrack to feature pari-mutuel wagering. The track attracted thousands of fans who would arrive and cheer the horses on.

However, the Saratoga racetrack became notoriously famous around the 1980s for being where Niatross, a famous racing horse, collapsed and fell on the inner rail, marking his first-ever career loss. Due to this, management changed the name of the Saratoga racetrack to the Saratoga Equine Sports Centre in the 1990s.

Despite the name change, the Saratoga casino still suffered losses. Until that was, New York state approved a bill allowing video lottery terminals (VLTs) to be installed at racetracks. The entire site was refurbished in 2003, turning the main floor into a large gaming room. On January 28, 2004, the racino became the first racing facility in New York state to open the video lottery terminals to the public.

In the same year, the racino changed its name once again to Saratoga Gaming and Raceway which lasted until around 2011, when the racino changed its name to Saratoga Casino and Raceway. Lastly, in 2015, construction of a brand new hotel began at the site’s north side on an old training track. The hotel opened in July 2016, prompting the racino to change its name to Saratoga Casino Hotel, which it’s known as today.

In total, the Saratoga racino offers over 1,700 slots and electronic casino games. Most racinos only offer slot games at their video lottery terminals, but the Saratoga offers much more than that.

In fact, the Saratoga racino offers electronic roulette, electronic three-card poker, electronic craps and electronic blackjack. The racino also offers special bonuses and promotions on their games, keeping every visitor busy.

The racing at the Saratoga racino never stops. Guests can watch or bet on horse races outside at the rail, in the lower clubhouse, in the Grandstand or while eating at some of the racino’s various restaurants and bars. Guests can bet and watch live racing in the racino throughout the entire year.

The Saratoga’s live harness racing generally takes place on Sundays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Meanwhile, guests can also watch simulcast horse racing.

Restaurants and Entertainment

In addition to a large number of racing sites and electronic casino games available, the Saratoga racino is also home to some delicious restaurants. Guests can visit the Morton’s Steakhouse and Lucky Joe’s which offer great food and allows guests to watch horse racing over a meal. The racino is also home to the Garden Buffet, Fortunes and the Perks Café which proudly serves Starbucks coffee.

The fun doesn’t stop there, however, as the Saratoga racino regularly schedules special events to keep guests entertained. You’ll get to experience live performances from musicians and DJs as well as comedians, themed nights and much more. One thing’s for sure, you’ll never be bored at the Saratoga Racino!
